The AEYC 2022-2023 application is now OPEN! The AEYC Application is not rolling, meaning that we will only view submissions after the due date has lapsed. Our application consists of two parts.

AEYC: Application Details

Part I of the 2022-2023 AEYC application requires:

- A biological information section

- Information on responsibilities, activities, and leadership outside of the classroom

- Answers to 4 short takes and 2 short essays

Short Take Prompts (max 50 words):

- What inspires you/brings you joy?

- If you could solve one environmental problem in the world, what would it be and why?

- You’re writing an article for our newsletter, the Young Environmentalist. What’s the title and what would it be about?

- What song represents the soundtrack of your life?

Short Essay Prompts (max 200 words, 1 required and 1 choice):

- Required: Why AEYC? Please tell us why you want to become a member of the AEYC and what motivated you to apply.

- A. Reflect on a community to which you feel connected. Why is it meaningful to you? You may define community however you like.

- B. Tell us about your engagement with a topic or idea that excites you. Why are you drawn to it?

- C. Write a note to your future AEYC members that reveals something about you or that will help your members, and us, get to know you better.

- D. What do you think is the most significant environmental challenge that society faces today?

Applicants who advance to Part II of the application will participate in a virtual interview with a current AEYC member or alumni.

To be eligible to apply, a student:

- Must be a high school student between the grades 9-12

- Must be a resident of the state of Alabama

Because AEYC will individually review every application we receive, we encourage any student who is interested in fulfilling our mission statement and believes can be a fit for our organization to apply.

Successful applicants demonstrate:

- A strong passion for working towards environmental conservation and sustainability in their community

- A desire to become a youth environmental ambassador in their local, school, and global communities

- The time, willingness, and ability to spend 5-15 hours a month on AEYC work, which includes but is not limited to:

~ active participation in all virtual meetings, discussions, and group chats for AEYC

~ collaboration in preparation for various projects we plan as a youth council for our communities

~ effective completion of independent work assignments between meetings in a timely manner

2022-2023 Application Timeline:

- April - May 2022: Interested applicants can begin and submit their application

- May 28, 2022: Final submission deadline at 11:59 PM CT

- June 2022: Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee

~ Mid June 2022: All applicants are notified about Part I of the admissions process. Applicants moving on to Part II are asked to sign up for interview slots.

~ Late June/Early July 2022: All Part II applicants are notified and the selected finalists are admitted to the 2022-2023 AEYC Cohort.
